Thailand
- Book Review,
by Tracey Boraas

From School Library Journal
Grade 3-6-A dry, factual introduction that includes chapters on land, climate, and wildlife; history and government; the economy; and people, culture, and daily life. Each one begins with a "Fast Facts" box. Some of the full-color photographs are not crisp and clear and seem dated, and the organization of the time line might be confusing for younger readers. Information is easily found, however, through the index and the detailed contents page. Some short "Features" are included, such as pictures of money, a recipe, and some words to learn in Thai. Jim Goodman's Thailand (Benchmark, 2002) is much more extensive and well done, albeit for a slightly older audience.Kristina Aaronson, Henniker Community School, NHCopyright 2003 Reed Business Information, Inc.

Thailand

ANNOTATION

An introduction to the geography, history, economy, culture, and people of Thailand.

FROM THE PUBLISHER

Let's visit Thailand, the Land of Smiles. Read about Buddhism, the religion of 90 percent of Thailand's people, and the monks in saffron-colored robes who depend on the kindness of their fellow Thais. Buddhist temples, along with Thailand's amazing wildlife, dazzling cities and spectacular beaches, draw tourists to the country and help fuel Thailand's fast-growing economy. Tradition and modern life merge in this country, which is the only southeastern country never colonized by another country.

Countries and Cultures books explore each nation in detail, including its climate, landforms, wildlife, history, government, economy, people, and traditions. Additional features include maps, sidebars explaining the country's money and national symbols (including the flag and seal), a historical timeline, and even a traditional recipe. Come discover the world!
