Henry Ford was the man whose Model T automobile made the gasoline-powered car affordable to Americans. Vintage photographs depict the man and his automobile factory. Even though he died more than half a century ago, Ford's company is still manufacturing cars. The back matter will probably be most useful to adults; it consists of a "Words to Know" section that includes definitions, a short bibliography, Internet sites, and an index/word list. K-Gr 2-These picture-book biographies are accessible to newly independent readers, the youngest researchers, and ESL students. Both have double-page spreads with a black-and-white photograph on the verso and a few simple sentences on the recto. The pictures enhance the readability of the texts by providing a window into the worlds of their subjects. Ford's life is described from his birth in 1863 through his death, including his creation of the assembly line. The Wright brothers and their invention of the gasoline-powered glider are given similar coverage.
