Photoshop Type Effects Visual Encyclopedia FROM OUR EDITORS
The Barnes & Noble Review
Sick of all those lame, clichᄑd, 20th-century Photoshop type effects? Want to create effects youᄑve never seen before? Have we got a book for you.
Photoshop Type Effects Visual Encyclopedia brings together well over 100 spectacular new effects for nearly every imaginable mood and medium. Superb reflective effects like realistic shaped glass and ᄑfish scaleᄑ decorative metal. Etched glass. Water vapor condensation. Soft, translucent plastic. Street number plates. Erosion. Quicksilver. Goth-style band name type. Skywriting. Routed wood. LCD displays. Weathering. Stone masonry. Sausage letters. Letterpress impressions. Ice. And, OK, a few effects you have seen but need in your repertoire anyway (like Apple-style Aqua type).
Thereᄑs also an expert overview of Photoshop 7ᄑs extensive type-handling capabilities, which make type every bit as powerful a design resource as images always have been. For those times when Photoshopᄑs built-in filters arenᄑt enough, thereᄑs even coverage of filters from KPT and Alien Skin.
With glorious full-color printing throughout, every single step of every step-by-step procedure contains its own visual. You never have to guess -- and itᄑs hard to imagine how you could go astray. Bill Camarda

FROM THE PUBLISHER
This book is divided into two main sections. It begins with an overview of the type-handling qualities of Photoshop. The improvements in this area make the program much more useful as a design tool; even longtime Photoshop operators are likely to find novelties here. The section concludes with a look at type effects in normal use, together with a collection of real-world type examples. The main Encyclopedia section has 72 different effects, organized into groups according to their nearest real-world equivalent. So, looking for a way to simulate skywriting, for example, go to the "Atmospheric Effects" heading, or scan "Solid Effects" for lookalike wood or stone. Alternatively, just dip in. Many pages have alternative effects described more briefly. The section ends with a flourish of uncategorizable items grouped as "Mood Effects." And don't neglect the Appendix -- there's a comprehensive (and very timesaving) show of all the built-in Photoshop filters and type actions. You'll also find the regular actions applied to type, examples of the effects produced by ready-made third-party actions, as well a survey of the most useful third-party filters and plug-ins. Speed enthusiasts can brush up their keyboard skills at the back of the book with all the Photoshop shortcuts laid out for both Macintosh and Windows platforms.
