His client and audience reached a global scale in 1998 when he had the privilege to lead a design team for the online coverage of the 2000 Olympics. As a designer and new father, Dane is using his background in sequential media and experience-based prototypes to express his passion for sharing the stories of his loved ones. His search has brought him to discover and evaluate the existing and evolving technologies that will shape the future of digital photography and self publishing for the mass market. The reinvention and expression of the photo album is carefully observed and evident in his work and research. Dane currently works at Microsoft Research in Redmond, Washington. He is a Design and Program Manager for their Smart Personal Objects Group, creating and designing new products.

Sharing Digital Photos: The Future of Memories

FROM OUR EDITORS

The Barnes & Noble Review
They may be the oldest words still with us, and theyve lost none of their power: Tell me a story! Your digital camera is one of the most amazing storytelling tools ever created. If youre just shooting snapshots, you could be doing so much more.

This books passion for digital storytelling is infectious -- and the best part is this: Its easy. The softwares free or cheap, and the visual narrative skills it teaches arent difficult.

Youll discover how to coax a compelling story from a day trip, a vacation, a ball game, even a few quiet moments at home. The authors show how to bring immediacy, authenticity, and intimacy into your photos. How to shoot and use sequences. How to tie together your vacation photos with digital maps.

With digital, you can share your images in whole new ways...but its even more than that. Suddenly, images can begin to suffuse your life.

Carry your CF card around with you. Use a digital camcorder to show your images on your dads TV. Build slide shows that are truly immersive experiences (Microsoft Plus! Photo Story is great for that). Create your childs online memory album -- one that brings your whole family closer. Illustrate your own legacy, too: the lifelong event that is you.

Most of us use our digital cameras roughly the way our grandparents used their Kodak Brownies. This book will open your eyes to a far richer way of preserving and sharing your memories. Bill Camarda
