Ideology and National Identity in Post-Communist Foreign Policy

Eight academics from the UK and the U.S. contribute nine essays concerned with countries from post-communist Europe and parts of the Soviet interior: Russia, Moldova, Georgia, Poland, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. They explore the degree to which the ideology of communism still exists in the foreign policies of these countries; whether their governments have issued what can be called national "mission statements" and the extent to which they define a purpose to each nation's existence; how each country is believed to relate to and interact with others; how foreign policy is used in regard to ethnic majority nation-building; and general attitudes to Europe and European institutional integration.
