Constructing Post-Soviet Geopolitics in Estonia

FROM THE PUBLISHER

This book provides a novel contribution to the increasingly popular 'critical geopolitics' literature now making a breakthrough in International Relations and Political Geography. The book examines the construction of post-Soviet political space, geopolitical discourses and boundaries in Estonia. Making use of innovative methodology, its analysis includes indepth interviews in order to elucidate a variety of issues through human experience and subjective perception, such as Estonian-Russian border disputes of the 1990s, inter-ethnic issues and national integration and security.

SYNOPSIS

Aalto, a visiting fellow at the Estonian Academy of Sciences, examines the construction of post-Soviet political space and geopolitical discourses in Estonia. Making use of methodological solutions such as Q-methodology and in-depth interviews, he looks at issues such as the border disputes of the 1990s and inter-ethnic conflicts, arguing that small states are active participants in post-Soviet and European geopolitics. The book is distributed in the US by ISBS. Annotation ©2003 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
