D. Gareth Evans covers the ground competently and comprehensively, and generally, though not without exception, the presentation is lucid and accessible. Like the same author's previous volume in the series (published in 1989 and dealing with the period 1815-1906), this work will surely attract a wide audience and will be of greatest balue, pergaps, to A-level students.
