Rylant has a real talent for telling a real story in a short easy to read format. Her Henry and Mudge books are perfect. Henry is a real kid who gets bored, unhappy, or scared, but with his loving parents and big dog Mudge things always work out. This time Henry is worried because he is going to be spending the night at grandma's and he is not sure that Mudge will be able to sleep with him and keep him safe. Mudge has to sleep outside, but he and Henry do manage to spend the night together. The watercolors by Stevenson bring the wonderful stories to life, and it is hard to image a Henry and Mudge story without her amusing pictures.
