A collection of short, humorous poems.
FROM THE CRITICS
Children's Literature - Sonia Ana Miller
These simple, humorous, every-day poems are greatly varied, addressing topics that all young children can relate to like family and bedtime in "Daddy Forgets my Name" or siblings and grades in "My Sister is Always on the Phone." He makes fun of routine adventures in school, addressing lunch in "No More Flies in the School Kitchen" and he gives new spins on popular classics such as "Jack Was Nimble" and variations on "Yankee Doodle" with "Yankee Doodle on a Chicken," "Yankee Doodle's Monkey Ride" and "Mrs. Doodle." The author handles even gross topics with finesse in such poems as "My Brother's Bear" and "Stop Sniffling!" With very few exceptions, none of the poems are longer than eight lines, keeping to a very simple, easy to read format. Each poem was appropriately illustrated to enhance the poem and provide context clues. The poems can be used as an introduction to basic elements of poetry, such as rhyme and structure. This book is perfectly sized for little hands with funny poems and illustrations to delight every beginning young reader. 2002, Meadowbrook Press, Ages 5 to 8.
