FROM THE CRITICS
James Aiman
The fifth edition of this textbook is expanded by 11 chapters and probes more deeply into basic reproductive physiology while retaining the useful clinical chapters. Chapters on contraception expand the scope of this subject. The purpose is to improve patient care by increasing the knowledge of clinicians. This is a worthy objective that is accomplished to a degree few other texts achieve. This book is intended for residents and practicing physicians who need to know about reproductive disorders. The authors are credible authorities. Dr. Speroff and his coauthors are master teachers with the rare gift to render the difficult understandable. Lisa Million is the illustrator and is also responsible for the page layout. The authors and publisher were finally wise enough to acknowledge the enormous contribution of her illustrations and design. The references are sufficient for the subject and are current. The appearance of this book adds to its usefulness. This book deserves to appear as a fifth edition. It is without doubt the most frequent reference for obstetricians and gynecologists who need practical information about management problems of all aspects of reproduction and infertility. The text marries well with the illustrations to yield a book that is a joy to read and easy to understand and that teaches effectively.
