Pharmacology Recall (Recall Series) ANNOTATION
The book contains black-and-white illustrations.
FROM THE PUBLISHER
Written with the busy medical student and house officer in mind, Pharmacology Recall minimizes the time spent reading and identifying important material and maximizes the time available for actual learning. As part of Lippincott Williams & Wilkins' Recall Series, Pharmacology Recall uses the concise, two-column question-and-answer format to facilitate quick learning. Common Board questions and mnemonics appear throughout the book to facilitate memorization and illustrations are provided to clarify important concepts. As an additional aid, a Pharmacology Power Review is included. This chapter presents a unique "bird's eye" view of pharmacology and can be used to review large amounts of high-yield information quickly before medical school and USMLE exams.

This pharmacology review book contains information in a format that minimizes reading time and maximizes the time available for learning. It is part of the Lippincott Williams & Wilkins Recall series. The editor presents a concise two-column question-and-answer format that allows ready identification of important material. This book is recommended for medical and health science students. It is edited by an ophthalmology resident, but contains contributions from a variety of medical personnel including doctors, pharmacists, and students. There are sections on all the major areas of pharmacology. The editor uses mnemonic icons to facilitate memorization of various facts. Following the sections on the different drug classes a review of high-yield drugs and facts is provided. In this section there is a brief discussion for each drug -- its mechanism of action, therapeutic uses, side effects, and additional important or unique properties. There is also an appendix with two sample pharmacokinetic problems, an appendix on antimicrobial drugs recommended against selected organisms, and finally an appendix of antimicrobial spectra comparisons of the different antibiotics. I think the editor deserves much credit for presenting in a concise form a lot of information about the different drugs and drug classes in this book. The question-and-answer format is very helpful. I do not know how relevant the information is to actual board questions but the important information about each class of drugs seems to be there. I did not find the icons very useful; I could only find one icon on board reviews and the ones for pneumonic devices were not useful at all. It is not clear why detailedinformation on antibiotics is provided, but not on other areas of pharmacology.
