Zeroing in on the perfect spot and setting all the plans in motion is the first challenge for a family traveler.
The changing mindscape is a challenge when it comes to planning trips for a family. But in a way, traveling with youngsters is a little like traveling with anyone else: You have to consider your companions' interests as well as your own. Practically speaking, that means picking a destination that can be appreciated at many different levels, one where your toddler can get excited about, say, the museum's colorful floor tiles, the ants along the trail, or the restaurant's novel bathrooms while you admire the exhibits, the woodlands' grandeur, or the view over the harbor from your table. You also want a destination with at least one attraction that will be really special to at least one member of the family -- ypurself included.
Whatever your choice, make sure that the places you choose to stay do welcome families so you don't feel as if you have to apologize for your children when they're just acting their age.
