Illustrated Encyclopedia of Woodworking Handtools, Instruments and Devices FROM THE CRITICS
Library Journal
This revision of Blackburn's popular 1974 book ( LJ 3/1/75) is aimed at collectors and woodworkers who use hand tools exclusively. In the introduction, he writes, ``There are . . . no power tools of any description.'' The line drawings used as frontispieces are well chosen from various early books and demonstrate the uses of the tools pictured. The line drawings accompanying the alphabetical listing are well drawn and accurate. This volume, while limited in scope, is highly inclusive and a delight to browse. The definitions are detailed though not overly serious in tone. Cross references where required and a concise bibliography are included, but an index is not. Recommended for large reference collections and where there is interest in tool collecting.-- Alex Hartmann, Bloomsburg Univ. Lib., Pa.

A revision of the praised 1974 edition, marred by the poor reproduction of the hundreds of drawings. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
