Tiny Tiger
- Book Review,
by Barbara deRubertis

From School Library Journal
PreSchool-Grade 2. Simple rhyming stories introduce long vowel sounds in these phonics primers. The books feature bright, full-color illustrations. The narration is clear on all the tapes. Beginning readers are introduced to homonyms, digraphs, and word patterns. Activities to extend the lessons appear at the back of each book. The flash card words and ideas for parents and children working together could be used successfully at home or in classrooms. While these are good teaching tools, children will find the stories lacking. The characters, all animals, are flat. The females are feminine, sweet, and play very traditional roles. These are a reasonable choice for libraries with a demand for phonics materials.?Angela J. Reynolds, West Slope Community Library, Portland, ORCopyright 1997 Reed Business Information, Inc.

Booklist
"These simple, fun stories capitalize on children's natural desire to learn to read. The stories also stress positive behavior traits such as sharing, friendship, and responsibility. This phonics series is a good addition to school or library collections."

Tiny Tiger

ANNOTATION

Tiny Tiger is too shy to play with the other cats, but then old Riley Lion gives him some wise advice.

FROM THE PUBLISHER

Special focus on the long vowel sound of the letter "i". Tiny Tiger is so shy, the other kids just pass him by. A wise old lion gives Tiny some advice. It works!
