FROM THE CRITICS
Children's Literature
The classroom guinea pig wants to be part of the Thanksgiving play, but as the teacher Ms. Day assigns roles, there doesn't seem to be one for Fluffy. Emma comes up with an idea. Fluffy participates in the festivities and eats his way to stardom. As with other books in the series, there are two more chapters or episodes in Fluffy's life. He goes home with Maxwell for the Thanksgiving break and gives Grammy quite a scare. In the last chapter, Maxwell puts his teddy bear in Fluffy's cage to help keep away nightmares, but his good deed has the opposite effect. Fluffy's thoughts/comments are printed in bold to distinguish them from the rest of the text. Mavis Smith's illustrations add plenty of laughs to the humorous stories. There is a page of instructions directed to family members who will be assisting new readers. A Level 3 book in the "Hello Reader" series. 2000 (orig. 1997), Cartwheel/Scholastic, . Ages 6 to 8.
