Real Mother Goose
- Book Review,
by Scholastic Books

Amazon.com
This is a board-book edition of the classic nursery rhyme collection, and it's a fine choice for a first nursery-rhyme book. The old-fashioned, rather Edwardian-looking illustrations may appeal more to nostalgic parents than to babies and toddlers, but the bright colors and simple lines are easy on small eyes, too. Each double-page spread has a one-verse rhyme on the left with an illustration on the right, and the 15 selections include Humpty Dumpty; Peter, Peter, Pumpkin-Eater; The Cat and the Fiddle; Pease Porridge Hot; and Wee Willie Winkie. (Baby to 3) --Richard Farr

Real Mother Goose

FROM OUR EDITORS

Though no one knows much about the "real" Mother Goose, generations of children have succumbed to the hypnotic charm of her delightful rhymes. This beautifully illustrated edition includes the familiar stories of "Little Bo-Peep," "Jack and Jill," "Humpty Dumpty," and "The Old Woman in the Shoe," as well as many less celebrated poems. Revisit the colorful landscape of childhood--an enchanting topsy-turvy world of sages, simpletons, and scalawags. And be sure to take a wee one with you...you'll be grateful for the company! 9" x 11". Color illustrations. Ages 2-5.

ANNOTATION

A comprehensive collection of over three-hundred traditional nursery rhymes.

FROM THE PUBLISHER

This sturdy board book, just the right size for small hands, contains 15 of the best-loved rhymes and illustrations from the classic "The Real Mother Goose", including "Humpty Dumpty", "Pat-A-Cake", and "The Cat and the Fiddle". Full color.

FROM THE CRITICS

Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot

Originally successful as a large format picture book, a few selections have been chosen for this board book edition. Among the featured rhymes are Humpty Dumpty, Pat-a Cake, Mary Had a Little lamb, and the concluding rhymes, Bedtime and Wee Willie Winkie. The latter undoubtedly is intended to help get little ones in the mood for a good night's sleep. The pictures have an old-fashioned look and they should amuse kids and their caregivers.
