These series titles from "The Watts History of Sports" satisfactorily relate in a year-by-year presentation information about the game, the participating teams, highlights of plays, anecdotes about athletes, and the final scores. Photos of key players and plays enhance the text. Sidebars about colorful characters connected to the sport or of memorable events are scattered throughout. Every year ends with a box listing the teams, the scores, and the best player(s) from each team. In The World Series, the top players' personal statistics are given. An introduction recounts the history of these ultimate sports events, how they came to be, the early years, and how the fans affected the sport. Stewart captures the drama of each game, as in the 1956 Don Larsen perfect game five between the Brooklyn Dodgers and the New York Yankees and in the 1969 Super Bowl III upset win by the New York Jets over the Baltimore Colts. Other titles in the series, including The Daytona 500 and The Final Four, include the same type of information within the same format. A colleague who fanatically follows college basketball read The Final Four and gave it a thumbs-up with the comment that it captures the essence and flavor of the NCAA Final Four. Just enough information is presented without being overwhelming. Bear in mind, however, that these books are not for everyone; the audience will be true sports enthusiasts. Index. Photos.
