by Christopher Lampton
Graphics and Animation on the ATARI: Eight Hundred, Four Hundred, Twelve Hundred XL, Eight Hundred XL and Six Hundred XL ANNOTATION Instructions for creating simple and advanced graphics using BASIC on the Atari computer. Includes suggestions for projects.
FROM THE CRITICS School Library Journal ea. vol: photogs. bibliog. index. (Computer Literacy Skills Bks.). CIP. Watts. Mar. 1986. PLB $10.90. Gr 7-12 This series on graphics and animation is not for beginners, as it requires a thorough understanding of the BASIC programming language. Lampton discusses in detail the features specific to each of four microcomputers, the Apple, Atari, and the TRS-80. In . . . Apple, some of the topics covered are screen formating, high- and low-resolution modes and shape tables. The important Atari graphics features that are described include bitmap modes, animation, memory usage and display lists and character sets. The least capable machine in terms of graphics is the TRS-80, but Lampton does a good job of exploring the range of this microcomputer. The textual content in each of the chapters is supplemented by suggested follow-up projects. A series of books for young programmers who want to improve their ability in programming computer graphics. SWZ
