FROM THE CRITICS
School Library Journal
Gr 3-6-Snowboarding offers a brief overview that includes the history, competitions, gear, and enthusiasm for the sport. It also includes a section on halfpipe lingo and an illustrated cross-section of a halfpipe. Rock Climbing offers a similar slim overview with an emphasis on getting fit prior to beginning the sport. The risks are presented, as are specific equipment needs, explanations of the various classes of climbing difficulty, knots, grips, and competitive climbing. Both books include captioned color photographs and sidebars that give additional information. Although these books lack detail, the easy texts and colorful layouts will appeal to reluctant readers.-Michael Giller, South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities, Greenville Copyright 2003 Reed Business Information.
