Shadow Game
- Book Review,
by Christine Feehan

From Publishers Weekly
Having fast made a name for herself in the vampire romance realm, Feehan (Dark Symphony, etc.) now turns her attention to other supernatural powers in this swift, sensational offering. When Lily Whitney's adopted father asks her to act as consultant on a project involving the development of advanced psychic powers, she is stunned to learn that he is experimenting on men from an elite military squadron. The men, lead by Capt. Ryland Miller, are separated and caged like lab rats in an underground facility where they have learned to communicate with each other telepathically, a talent Lily has had since birth. In true romance form, Lily and Ryland share an instant attraction, which leads to a few intriguing sexual liaisons (such as the sequence where Ryland enters Lily's dream). After Lily's father is murdered, she discovers that he harbored some despicable secrets, but that doesn't stop her from searching for his killer. At times it's difficult to overlook the story's improbabilities (e.g., Lily can move objects, but when in danger, she can't help herself) and Feehan's overly dramatic prose ("Small bolts of lightening whipped in his bloodstream"; "Tongues of fire raced along her skin"); however, this is still the sultry, spine-tingling kind of read that her fans will adore. From Booklist
In Feehan's latest paranormal, sizzling sex scenes both physical and telepathic pave the road to true love for brilliant billionaire scientist Lily Whitney and Captain Ryland Miller, the leader of a squad of psionically gifted soldiers who have been imprisoned and separated from each other after receiving life-threatening enhancements. When Lily's father called her in to consult on a top-secret project he was working on for the government, he had no idea that he was signing his own death warrant or that his beloved daughter with her psychic talents would witness his murder and become a target for the traitors who were bending his project to their own evil purposes. Ryland lends his psychic strength to Lily and ignites a passion that brings him and his men into her high-security estate. Action, suspense, and smart characters make this erotically charged romance an entertaining read. Diana Tixier Herald

Library Journal

Dr. Peter Whitney is the driving force behind a new government experiment aimed at enhancing the psychic abilities of a select group of volunteers in order to turn them into secret and lethal military weapons. But the experiment goes wrong, and some of the GhostWalkers, the men in the experiment, are dying. Dr. Whitney brings his telepathic genius daughter, Lily, to the lab so that she can help assess the situation. However, before they can exchange notes, Dr. Whitney is killed, and as Lily links minds with him for one last time, he tells her to free the prisoners, find his secret lab, and destroy his work. Working to right her father's wrongs, Lily joins forces and minds with the highly telepathic Capt. Ryland Miller, one of the GhostWalkers, and finds a passion neither can deny. One of the best current voices in the darker paranormal romance subgenre, Feehan has begun another series that, while lacking the fantasy feel of her Carpathian romances, is equally intense, sensual, and mesmerizing and might appeal especially to fans of futuristic romances. Known for her vampire tales, Feehan (Dark Symphony) is a rising star in paranormal romance; she lives in northern California. Copyright 2003 Reed Business Information.
