Inner Harbor
- Book Review,
by Nora Roberts

Amazon.com
Inner Harbor, the highly anticipated close to the story of "the lives and loves of three brothers on the windswept shores of the Chesapeake Bay" that began in Sea Swept and Rising Tides, finds Philip, the last unwed Quinn brother, juggling his high-powered advertising job and his newfound family duty of helping to care for his young adopted brother, Seth. When Dr. Sybill Griffin shows up in the sleepy town of St. Christopher, Philip makes room in his hectic schedule for the mysterious woman who stirs his senses and threatens to steal his heart. And while Sybill can't deny her own growing feelings for the charismatic Quinn, the secret connection to Seth that she hides may destroy any chance that the two young lovers have at happiness. Full of heartwarming familial moments, tender romance, and a touch of tension, Inner Harbor is an outstanding conclusion to a truly stunning trilogy.

From Library Journal
Cam was the speed-chasing playboy and Ethan the taciturn waterman. But former street hustler Philip Quinn was the stylish city dweller who took one look at Dr. Sybill Griffin and fell hard. Sybill made her mark in observational psychology, always ten paces back from the action. This time Philip wont let her avoid the fray. He finds Sybill attractive in ways he refuses to admit. When her relationship to his brother Seth is uncovered, Philip must reconcile his needs and hers with those of Seth. This final novel in the Quinn Brothers trilogy is equally as strong as the prior two (e.g., Rising Tides, Audio Reviews, LJ 11/1/98). Guy Lemonier is terrific at vocalizing Philip and particularly Sybill, whose cold, unemotional facade gives frosty new meaning. Roberts is at her best here, from the multifaceted characterizations to the carefully crafted plot twists. This, and the other titles in the series, are excellent additions to fiction collections.Jodi L. Israel, Jamaica Plain, MACopyright 1999 Reed Business Information, Inc.

From AudioFile
The conclusion of the Quinn Brothers trilogy resolves the mystery of Seth Quinn's birth and the love life of his brother, Phillip. Unlike the first two books, Inner Harbor requires some knowledge of the story line preceding it to understand the plot. Guy Lemonier's understated reading cannot match David Stuart's performance of the first two installments. While Stuart gave each Quinn brother a distinct aural personality, Lemonier merely reads their dialogue. His interpretation of the steamy love scenes between Phillip and Sybill inspires more embarrassment than passion, as does his portrayal of the feisty female characters in the story. If you haven't heard Stuart's performances, Lemonier's reading might be less disappointing. In either event, it falls far short of satisfaction. R.P.L. (c) AudioFile, Portland, Maine

SYNOPSIS

Inner Harbor is the crowning achievement in the story of the lives of the brothers Quinn. While the previous two books dealt primarily with Cam and Ethan, Inner Harbor focuses its attention on Phillip, the most unattached of the three after having given up his sexy job in Baltimore to be part of a boat-building enterprise in the small town of St. Christopher's, on Maryland's eastern shore. Phillip may be the hunkiest of the brothers, and when a mysterious writer named Sybill crosses his path, his world begins to rock.

Here's yet another volume on the Amistad affair (see Cable, above). Owens's 1953 title is the one upon which the current film supposedly is based. Take your pick.

WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING

From a barnesandnoble.com e-nnouncement

Nora Roberts is a staple on the New York Times bestseller list, and having written more than 100 novels, she proves that romance is far from dead. In Roberts￯﾿ᄑs latest novel, INNER HARBOR, she concludes the captivating trilogy that started with SEA SWEPT and RISING TIDES. Once again the Quinn brothers are back in the final installment of the trilogy. Read Nora￯﾿ᄑs insightful message before beginning this enchanting conclusion.

Dear Reader,

Home means different things to different people. Making a home can be both a challenge and a joy. Those of us who are lucky have fond memories of the place where we grew up, of the traditions there. INNER HARBOR deals with finding that home, making it, preserving it. Ray and Stella Quinn had given Phillip a second chance at life. He￯﾿ᄑd never forgotten what they￯﾿ᄑd done for him. With his brothers, Cameron, Ethan, and now Seth, Phillip worked to maintain their home and keep a promise to a man he loved. Maybe he preferred his life in Annapolis, the museums, the restaurants, the crowds, but he￯﾿ᄑd keep his promise even if it meant splitting his time on the Shore, laboring over hulls and homework. Home was what Ray wanted for his sons, all of his sons. To keep his promise, and his home, Phillip must accept the boy Ray brought into their lives, and deal with a beautiful woman who has secrets that will affect all of them -- a woman who needs both his trust and his heart. To clear their father￯﾿ᄑs name and keep a sacred vow, the Quinns will band together. A family formed by fate and the generous hearts of a special couple. --Nora Roberts
