Adventures of an African Slaver

SYNOPSIS

This is an account of the slave trade by a slave ship captain, compiled in 1854 from his journals, memoranda, and conversations and complete with b&w historical illustrations. A slave trader for three decades, Canot describes the economic structure of African kingdoms, his travels in the interior of Africa, the treatment of black Africans on slave ships, and the suppression of a slave revolt at sea. This is an unabridged republication of a work first published by D. Appleton & Co., New York, 1854, under the title Captain Canot; or, Twenty Years of an African Slaver.
