Sam and his classmates are going on a trip to the zoo. Their teacher puts on a hat with a polka dot bow and reminds her charges, particularly Sam, to keep up with the class. Sam is entranced by the chimps, the polar bears, and all the other animals. When he finally looks around, he realizes that he is alone, but wait--isn't that a hat with a polka dot bow by the ice cream stand? The loose watercolor illustrations are perfect for portraying this class outing and clearly depict the tension created when Sam is momentarily lost. Part of the "Hello Reader! First Grade Friends" series, Level 1.
