Brian Jacques takes us back to the world of Redwall in this story about the fearless warrior Rakkety Tam. Gulo the Savage (know for eating his enemies) seeks the Walking Stone, but the Abbey of Redwall stands in his way. Worried about the fate of the Abbey, Armel the squirrel maiden has a vision of Martin. Martin tells her to give his sword to a "warrior who sold and lost his sword." Armel and her friend Brooky set off to find this warrior, but are captured by Captain Shard. When Tam and his friend Doogy rescue them, Armel realizes that Tam is the person to whom she should give the sword. The animals all band together to defend the Abby against Gulo and his minions. This epic adventure will well-satisfy the fans waiting for the next "Redwall" novel. Newcomers to the series may have a bit of trouble keeping the characters straight (a glossary of names would have been a welcome addition). Elliot's black and white drawings at the beginning of each chapter provide a wonderful yet non-intrusive illustration of this adventure-packed story. 2004, Philomel Books, Ages 10 up.
