Numerous battles occur across Mossflower Country and eventually end at the doorstep of Redwall Abbey. This fast-paced adventure will keep readers on their toes until the final battle. From Booklist
Gr. 5-8. In this seventeenth Redwall title, Mossflower Country and the peaceful inhabitants of Redwall Abbey are under threat from Gulo the Savage, a flesh-eating wolverine who murdered his father and now seeks to kill his brother and recapture the Walking Stone. Two warrior squirrels, Rakkety Tam McBurl and his friend Wild Doogy Plumm, set out with the hares from the Long Patrol to battle Gulo and protect the abbey residents. Jacques' tale of war and courage includes a cast of thousands that battle fiercely and relish their comradeship, most often through banquet and song. Several intriguing characters stand out, including Yoofuss the vole, a compulsive thief who steals every trinket he comes in contact with; Sister Armel, a Redwall squirrel maid whose dreams help foretell the story's outcome; and a turtle called Rockbottom. The complex plot and frequent use of Scottish dialect may try a casual reader's patience, but Redwall fans won't be deterred. Kay Weisman

Book Description
There has never been a Redwall hero quite like Rakkety Tam, the roguish Highlander squirrel who sets off for Mossflower Wood on a mercenary errand and loses his heart to the charms of Redwall Abbey. And there's never been a villain quite like Gulo the Savage: a vicious beast-eating wolverine who descends upon the Abbey in search of a relic called the Walking Stone. Readers will cheer at the return of the Long Patrol, the antics of a renegade vole thief, and the emergence of a new champion to wield the sword of Martin. As fans of Brian Jacques and Redwall know, the adventures just keep getting bigger and better.

Publishers Weekly

The Redwall series marches on with Rakkety Tam by Brian Jacques. Gulo the Savage-a cannibalistic wolverine with an army of foxes and ermines-invades, searching for the "Walking Stone" his brother Askor stole. Children's Literature - Amie Rose Rotruck

Brian Jacques takes us back to the world of Redwall in this story about the fearless warrior Rakkety Tam. Gulo the Savage (know for eating his enemies) seeks the Walking Stone, but the Abbey of Redwall stands in his way. Worried about the fate of the Abbey, Armel the squirrel maiden has a vision of Martin. Martin tells her to give his sword to a "warrior who sold and lost his sword." Armel and her friend Brooky set off to find this warrior, but are captured by Captain Shard. When Tam and his friend Doogy rescue them, Armel realizes that Tam is the person to whom she should give the sword. The animals all band together to defend the Abby against Gulo and his minions. This epic adventure will well-satisfy the fans waiting for the next "Redwall" novel. Newcomers to the series may have a bit of trouble keeping the characters straight (a glossary of names would have been a welcome addition). Elliot's black and white drawings at the beginning of each chapter provide a wonderful yet non-intrusive illustration of this adventure-packed story. 2004, Philomel Books, Ages 10 up.
