- Book Review,
by Oscar L. Colombo (Editor)

From Book News, Inc.
The proceedings of a symposium in Vienna in August 1991. The 31 papers offer a comprehensive view of techniques and results of mapping gravity from spacecraft, for a global picture--or from aircraft, for high-resolution local surveys. The sections cover long wavelengths, high resolution, new results and trends in airborne techniques, and the related theory. People who have visited both Greenland and Mars might say that they are not all that different, but no one has. No subject index. Annotation copyright Book News, Inc. Portland, Or.

Book Description
Precise and continuous tracking with multi-satellite systems of aircraft and low flying satellites, accurate airborne measurement of gravity and gravity gradients, and satellite gradiometry have fundamentally changed our view on the determination of the Earth's gravity field. The papers in this volume describe these techniques in detail. The ideas are presented as complementary, and are used to develop new theoretical concepts of gravity field analysis. Computational models using these techniques are also discussed and are tested in simulations. The papers presented in this volume are the result of an IAG symposium held during the XX General Assembly of the International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics in Vienna, Austria, August 11-24, 1991.
