FROM THE CRITICS
KLIATT
Mystery combined with horsessurely a winning combination. Jasmine trains and shows a beautiful horse named Whirlwind, who suddenly dies. She's convinced the horse's owner, Hugh, killed Whirlwind for some unknown reason and she attacks Hugh with a pickat the same instant her grandfather has a stroke. Convicted of felony assault and in the foster care system, Jas gets sent to Second Chance Farms until her next hearing. While at the facility for rescuing abused and neglected animals, Jas comes across a scrawny horse named Shadow at an auction. Jas becomes convinced Shadow, Whirlwind, and Hugh are somehow connected. She just needs to find out how. Hart does an excellent job making her characters real, and she gives us a good look at what families are supposed to be about, finding the courage to stand up for what we know is right, and the importance of trust. This would make an excellent book for the library, the classroom, or the home.
