If you're a Web designer recently tasked with using ColdFusion to build interactivity into your site or if you're just eager to learn how to create dynamic sites using Macromedia's leading Web application server, you'll want to read Macromedia ColdFusion MX: Training from the Source from cover to cover. This simple, concise guide uses step-by-step, project-based lessons developed in the Macromedia training centers to guide you through all of the program's basic features, both new and old. Every step has a screenshot so you can see exactly what you need to do, every step of the way. Even with no prior knowledge of ColdFusion, you'll learn how to use forms, retrieve database information, modify databases, work with advanced data types, create user defined functions, and more. Plus, the book ships with a companion CD-ROM that includes all of the lesson files used in the book as well as software demos, enabling you to immediately use what you've learned.
SYNOPSIS
Two experienced ColdFusion developers provide a step-by-step introduction to the latest version of Macromedia's Web application server, enabling readers to create dynamic Web sites with little or no programming experience. Throughout the text, readers work on projects centered around the theme of creating and maintaining customer information for an online company. The accompanying CD-ROM contains files for all of the lessons, finished versions of all projects, and a 30-day trial version of Dreamweaver MX and ColdFusion Server required for the lessons. Assumes an ability to write basic HTML pages without the help of a WYSIWYG editor. Annotation ©2004 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
FROM THE CRITICS
Library Journal
The ColdFusion application server component of Macromedia's MX suite allows web developers to create dynamic sites that interact with underlying databases. Training's CD features trial versions of Dreamweaver MX and ColdFusion Server, but the book is not bound well and may not stand up to repeated use. Chapters take the form of step-by-step lessons, beginning with a useful topic and time-completion outline and including notes answering common questions. This beginner's guide would be most helpful to readers already familiar with HTML and/or Dreamweaver MX (LJ 1/03); appropriate for all libraries. Certified trains experienced developers for Macromedia's Certified ColdFusion Developer exam. Each chapter includes sample questions; tips, notes, cautions, and cross references help anticipate common pitfalls. A good purchase for larger libraries that already own more basic texts; it teaches to the test rather than helping developers learn ColdFusion from scratch. Copyright 2003 Reed Business Information.
