Otto Goes to Camp FROM OUR EDITORS
The Barnes & Noble Review
The star of Todd Parr's Otto Goes to Bed is off to camp -- and having a tough time -- in this marvelous, refreshing picture book. Before Otto heads away, he worries about homesickness and winds up bringing some favorite things with him, including a blanket, bone, stick, and yummy cherry pie. After he arrives, Otto finds that getting along in the great outdoors isn't so great. The other campers don't help much either, only referring to him as "Silly Otto!" when the poor doggy tries roasting marshmallows with a short stick or gets stuck in his sleeping bag. Thankfully, though, when a hike results in a harrowing meeting with a bear, the brave and kind Otto steps up and saves the day. Parr delivers more of his unique brand of feel-good book, giving young readers a playful tale that ultimately teaches a smart lesson. The author's fun, dazzling artwork will again keep readers' hearts leaping with delight, and with Otto being such a lovable character, it's no doubt that Parr fans will be begging for more of this patch-eyed pooch. ANNOTATION
When Otto goes to camp, everyone else makes fun of the things he has brought along, but one of those things comes in very handy.
FROM THE PUBLISHER
Otto takes on the great outdoors. But -- oh no, fish don't like Otto's bone, his stick is too short to roast marshmallows, and he doesn't pack his knapsack with all the "right" things. But when the campers come upon a hungry bear, Otto's cherry pie saves the day!
Todd Parr's own dog Bully inspired Otto, who also stars in Otto Goes to the Beach and Otto Goes to Bed. Todd, author-illustrator of over twenty books for children, loves to bring his unique blend of silly and satisfying stories to schools and bookstores across the country.
FROM THE CRITICS
Publishers Weekly
The lovable pup stars in two paper-over-board titles by Todd Parr: Otto Has a Birthday Party and Otto Goes to Camp. In the first, Otto tests his culinary skills, making a cake for his party (using shoes, bones and a hot dog, among other ingredients), while the second finds the canine packing his favorite bone, stick and cherry pie for a trip to the wilderness.
