Archaeology of the Indian Subcontinent and Sri Lanka: A Selected Bibliography, Vol. 10 FROM THE PUBLISHER
Filling a distinct gap in the reference literature of archaeology, this bibliography provides an introduction to the vast and varied literature produced by the practice of archaeology in the Indian subcontinent and Sri Lanka since the early 19th Century. The annotated entries are arranged geographically by contemporary political subdivisions, with now-vanished "native states" and jurisdictions from the days of the British Raj cross-referenced to the modern subdivision. Within each section, entries are arranged chronologically, permitting the user to trace the inception and development of archaeological field survey and investigation regionally. Emphasis has been placed on works in English or other Western languages which are located easily outside of South Asia.
SYNOPSIS
Introduces the researcher to the vast and varied literature on South Asian archaeology and prehistory.
FROM THE CRITICS
Booknews
Comprises an annotated bibliography of works selected to provide the researcher unfamiliar with this massive body of literature with a framework for investigation. Assembled by contemporary political unit of the subcontinent (India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka) rather than by physiographic region, with the exception of the Ganges Valley. Entries within each category are arranged in chronological order either by publication date or, in the case of conference proceedings, the year the conference was held. Coverage extends from the writings of James Prinsep in 1788 to the 1990s. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
