Scandinavian Women Writers: An Anthology from the 1880s to the 1980s (Contributions in Women's Studies)
- Book Review,
by Ingrid Clareus (Editor)

Book Description
"This is a collection of 23 translated short stories, extracts from novels and diary extracts all written by Scandinavian women writers. The period covered is from the 1880s to the 1980s. The ordering of those pieces may be said to parallel the histories of women in these countries. Early extracts deal with the constraints of marriage and motherhood. The suffrage movement of the late 19th and early 20th centuries has an impact and the pieces show an increasing awareness of social, economic and political issues. Similarly, we have clear evidence of the influence of the feminist movement of the 1960s and 1970s giving rise to an increasing range of concerns and styles.

About the Author
INGRID CLAREUS was an Assistant Professor of Scandinavian Literature at the University of Wisconsin-Madison prior to retiring to Sweden.
