Resurrection Road : A Bay Tanner Mystery (Bay Tanner Mysteries)
- Book Review,
by Kathryn R. Wall

From Publishers Weekly
In Wall's fifth book to feature tough, determined and thoroughly modern Bay Tanner (after 2004's Judas Island), the widowed South Carolina accountant has basically disbanded her nascent detective agency, while her relationship with sexy Frenchman Alain Darnay seems headed in the right direction. But Bay's past comes back to haunt her after young Carter Anderson, who blames her for his dad's death, confronts her ("I want to know why you killed my father"). When Carter goes missing, Bay and Darnay become suspects in the boy's disappearance. Wall paints an almost Kafkaesque scenario as a new detective, a recently appointed judge and a web of evidence, circumstantial or manufactured, begin to box Bay into a corner. For once the powerful connections of Bay's lawyer father are of little help. Wall manages to imbue the vestiges of the old South with only a tinge of regret and yet still milks the romantic ambience effectively. Bay's resourcefulness and courage are again tested fully as fans have come to expect in this increasingly popular series. Agent, Amy Rennert. Regional author tour. Library Journal

Everything seems fine at first for Bay Tanner (Judas Island) on Hilton Head Island: there's tennis with French Interpol agent/ lover Darnay and a new marriage proposal. But then a teenager who has been following them accuses her of killing his father. An excellent addition to the series. Wall lives in Hilton Head, SC. Copyright 2005 Reed Business Information.

Kirkus Reviews

Bay Tanner and her lover, Alain Darnay, are relishing hot days and sultry nights at her home on Hilton Head-until they become murder suspects. Following Bay from the tennis club to the parking lot of her hotel, Carter Anderson accuses her of murdering his father, who was involved in the death of her husband. When the young man disappears and blood is found in his car, even Bay's police officer brother-in-law Red is suspicious. A night trip to check out the car-dump leads the lovers to Miss Minnie, who wields a shotgun and some cryptic hints. When Bay returns next morning to discover Miss Minnie dead, she and Alain are in even hotter water. Scarcely recovered from her physical and emotional scars of the recent past (Judas Island, 2004, etc.), Bay is devastated when Alain, again working for Interpol, leaves her to fight the charges alone. Generations of local influence seem helpless against the machinations of a newly arrived judge and police officer. So Bay calls on the resources of her father, retired Judge Talbot Simpson, computer expert Erik Whiteside, Red Tanner and old college friend/investigative reporter Gabby Henson. They discover a vipers' nest of crooked cops and drug dealers that force Bay to face up to some long-buried problems. Make sure there's lots of sweet tea on hand to keep you alert for the rousing conclusion.
