Politics and Government in the Visegrad Countries: Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia
- Book Review,
by John Fitzmaurice

Book Description
The four countries that are the subject of this book will most likely become the first Central European members admitted to the European Union within five to ten years. This book aims to offer an accessible, comprehensive and up to date one-volume comparative overview of their systems of government and politics. John Fitzmaurice sets the basic data for each country in a comparative regional framework against the background of the problems of transition from communism. In seeking to treat these countries as democracies like any others, albeit with their own history and specific problems, the book makes a case for their return to Europe.

About the Author
John Fitzmaurice is Head of the Forward Studies Unit at the European Commission.
