Mossbauer Spectroscopy Applied to Magnetism and Materials Science (Modern Inorganic Chemistry)
- Book Review,
by Gary J. Long, Fernande Grandjean (Editor)

From Book News, Inc.
Magnetically ordered materials are useful in various applications, such as motors, magnetic imaging, magnetic recording, and magnetic levitation, and hence much effort has been devoted to the development of better hard magnetic materials, magnetic thin films, and molecular magnets. M<:;o>ssbauer-effect spectroscopy is a technique that probes solid-state materials at specific atomic sites and yields microscopic information on the magnetic and electronic properties of these materials. The first six chapters of this volume discuss various applications of M<:;o>ssbauer spectroscopy to magnetic materials; the seventh chapter discusses the use of M<:;o>ssbauer spectroscopy to investigate the microscopic electronic and magnetic properties of nanostructured materials. No mention is made of further volumes. Annotation copyright Book News, Inc. Portland, Or.

Book Description
The Mossbauer spectroscopic technique has carved out an important niche for itself, providing magnetic and electronic information for solid-state materials at specific atomic sites. The current volume discusses applications of the technique, particularly as it relates to materials of technological and commercial importance. Researchers working across the gamut of solid-state materials science--from the engineering of new materials to the chemistry and physics of their interactions--will find this book indispensible.

Book Info
Modern Inorganic Chemistry, Volume 2 covers the study of magnetism and materials.

Mossbauer Spectroscopy Applied to Magnetism and Materials Science, Vol. 1

FROM THE CRITICS

Booknews

More affordable than the first volume of the series for funding- challenged academic libraries. Also more oriented to materials scientists who are not experts in Mossbauer spectroscopy, concentrating more on the study of materials by that and related techniques, such as neutron scattering and a variety of surface scattering methods. Among the topics are magnetic and structural properties of real metal layer interfaces, iron-based amorphous ribbons and wires, diffusion studies, and quasi-crystalline materials. Either the cover or the pages were printed upside down. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
