Such Is My Love : A Study of Shakespeare's Sonnets - Book Review,
by Joseph Pequigney

From Library Journal This is a closely argued homoerotic interpretation of Shakespeare's sonnets. It gives minute attention to the text as well as to the extensive scholarship which has generally resisted such an interpretation. Pequigney demonstrates that the sonnets, from such a view, fall into place in a ``grand design'' in the order of the first printing in the 1609 quarto, and suggests that this is therefore the order Shakespeare himself chose. The bawdy aspect of the sonnets is here expanded to a new dimension; the homosexual interpretation is convincingly presented. Future approaches to the sonnets will find it necessary to address the views argued here. Dorothy E. Litt, Inst. for Research in History, New YorkCopyright 1985 Reed Business Information, Inc.
