SYNOPSIS

In the fourth edition of this college text, Inch (Pacific Lutheran U.) and Warnick (U. of Washington) incorporate recent trends in the teaching and learning of argumentation, to acknowledge the needs and interests of an increasingly diverse population. The fourth edition continues to focus on a rhetorical approach, while also including reason-giving practices of various cultures (e.g. cooperative argument, narrative, and value appeals). The text also emphasizes the need to recognize diverse perspectives, to avoid personal prejudice, and to carefully evaluate the evidence, reasoning and assumption in argumentation.
