Military Balance 2001-2002

SYNOPSIS

Brassey's was the former publisher of this annual, which is prepared by the London-based International Institute for Strategic Studies; now Oxford U. Press does the publishing. With information current as of August 2001 (next year's issue will no doubt show some radical changes given the September events), this report groups the world's countries by region and supplies a concise introduction to the military issues facing each and details of its demographics and defense forces, economics, weapons and other military holdings/acquisitions. Non-state armed groups such as the Taliban (spelled "Taleban") are also listed. The second section contains tables and analyses, including a new analysis of developments in the European Rapid Reaction Force. The volume also features a color-coded wall map of armed conflict in 2001, with data on multinational peacekeeping operations, costs, and other indicators; aircraft designations; and on the inside back cover, the NATO military command structure. Indexed by country and territory.
