Kipper's Sunny Day: [Lift the Flap] FROM THE PUBLISHER
Kipper and Tiger have fun in the sun! Flip up the flaps to open their beach umbrella, make their sandcastle bigger, and reveal the goodies in their picnic baskets.
FROM THE CRITICS
School Library Journal
PreS-K-In Rainy Day, the spirited pup is experiencing the joy of rain and seeing which of his friends love it, too. In Sunny Day, he and Tiger, a Scottish Terrier, go to the beach. In both books, questions are asked and children can come up with their own answers and/or lift the flap to see what the friends decide. ("Does anyone at the farm love rain?" Opening a flap that resembles a gate reveals, "The pigs do!") The colors are bright and lively, and the minimal text is large and easy to read. These appealing titles are great tools for creative thinking and stimulating the imagination.-Karen Scott, Valley Intermediate School, Pelham, AL Copyright 2001 Cahners Business Information.
Kirkus Reviews
A sun-filled day promises fun for Kipper and his best pal Tiger when they embark on a jaunt to the beach. A companion piece to Kipper's Rainy Day (p. 1027), this short tale extols the splendors of warm sand, a sunshiny day, and a good companion-all wrapped up into one idyllic interlude. Simple, direct questions coupled with inviting lift-the-flap illustrations guide readers through an exciting day at the shore. Together, the doggie duo wrestles with obstinate beach umbrellas, erects grandiose sandcastles, and enjoys an alfresco luncheon. When their outing is topped off with an ice-cream treat, it spells canine delight. A surprise ending-think of a stealth crab and a picnic basket-provides a comic denouement to this day of sun and fun. Cheery, uncluttered drawings are toddler-perfect while the chunky flaps are a snap for little hands to maneuver. A great way to get little ones energized for a trip to the beach. (Picture book. 2-5)
