Book Description
A brainwashed James Bond has tried—and failed—to assassinate M, his boss. Now Bond has to prove he is back on form and can be trusted again. All 007 has to do is kill one of the most deadly freelance hit men in the world: Paco "Pistols" Scaramanga, the Man with the Golden Gun. But despite his license to kill, 007 is no assassin, and on finding Scaramanga in the sultry heat of Jamaica, he decides to infiltrate the killer’s criminal cooperative—and realizes that he will have to take him out as swiftly as possible. Otherwise 007 might just be the next on a long list of British Secret Service numbers retired by the Man with the Golden Gun...

Man with the Golden Gun

FROM THE PUBLISHER

Bond is back! 007, the world's greatest secret agent, returns in a classic adventure!

James Bond is dead! Or so his employers at MI5 believe... until he attempts to assassinate his boss, M - because he's been brainwashed by the KGB! With his conditioning removed, M sends Bond on a deadly mission; to track down Francisco Scaramanga - "The Man with the Golden Gun"! But with a KGB agent and the usual quotient of beautiful, treacherous girls in his path, will Bond make it back?

Also features the story, "The Living Daylights", plus background on Bond creator, Ian Fleming, and a foreword by Ian Fleming's niece, Lucy Fleming.

FROM THE CRITICS

AudioFile

The story feels as if (like Bond himself in this novel) author Fleming were just coming off a rough patch, both mentally and physically. The one-dimensional plot, the clichéd henchmen, the overwrought title character all churn through a formulaic 007 tale set in sunny Jamaica. Bond occasionally redeems himself with suaveness, but if it weren't for the restrained and very British performance by Robert Whitfield, this would be a "must-miss." Whitfield, as usual, nails dialect, mood, and pace so well that some listeners might overlook the weak story. D.J.B. © AudioFile 2003, Portland, Maine
