Turtle and Snake and the Christmas Tree ANNOTATION
Turtle and Snake are ready to decorate a Christmas tree but they first need to find the perfect tree.
FROM THE PUBLISHER
It's the perfect day to find a Christmas tree. Best friends Turtle and Snake look at many trees, but none is quite right. Then they arrive home to find the perfect Christmas tree right in their own yard. This simple, lively, holiday tale is just right for beginning readers.
FROM THE CRITICS
Children's Literature
Turtle and Snake are neighbors who go out to find the perfect Christmas tree. They cannot agree on any of the trees at the Tree Farm. Snake likes the tall, skinny ones and Turtle likes the short, wide ones. Finally they find the perfect tree a little closer to home. The illustrations are very flat and uninteresting, and the characters do not convey much personality or emotion. 2000, Puffin/Penguin Putnam, and $3.99. Ages 3 to 6. Reviewer: Dr. Judy Rowen
Kirkus Reviews
Next-door neighbors Turtle and Snake (Turtle and Snake at Work, 1999, etc.) bundle up to go shopping for a treebut as one (guess which) likes tall, skinny ones, and the other prefers them short and wide, the two leave the tree farm empty-handed (figuratively speaking). Brand new readers will slide through the short sentences here as easily as Turtle, Snake, and a host of winter frolickers slip down snow-covered slopes in Spohn's simply drawn scenes. And the good fellowship positively radiates after Turtle and Snake at last find the perfect treegrowing between their housesand invite everyone to a grand trimming party beneath the stars. A pleasant holiday confection, frosted with humorous touches. (Easy reader. 6-8)
