School Library Journal
PreS-Gr 2This version of The Three Little Pigs is strong on tradition, with the usual repetitive actions and sentences, and the first two little pigs get eaten. The structure and familiar story line provide a good vehicle for youngsters beginning to read on their own. Rader's watercolor illustrations contain plenty of context clues and provide humor. Though Ziefert's text is more complex than Margaret Hillert's pre-primer edition (Modern Curriculum, 1963) and not as originalor as funkyas James Marshall's retelling (Dial, 1989), it will get plenty of use in beginning-to-read collections.Gale W.
