The fifth edition of this textbook on the history of interior design is the first revision since 1974. New material has been added to cover design developments of the past quarter-centurynew styles, materials, organizations, certification laws, and developments in design school accreditation. The text has been significantly reorganized, new material on non-Western design traditions has been added, and the total number of illustrations greatly increased. Whiton (d. 1972) was director of the New York School of Interior Design; Abercrombie's credentials are not given.
